Peter L. Toler, 85, of Berlin Heights, OH passed away on Saturday December 16, 2017 at Stein Hospice,
Sandusky, OH. Pete loved to travel and go fishing. He worked for Ford Motor Company for many years. He
was born on June 23, 1932 in Sunhill, WV a son of the late Aaron Toler and Spicie Toler McClain. In addition
to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter Elizabeth Toler; and sisters Polly Toler, Lisa Gay Toler,
Alice Craft, Imogene Leffel and Eunice Rozelle;. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years Gladys Lawson
Toler; two children William (Paulette) Lawson and Deborah (James) McArdle; grandchildren Kevin
(Melinda) Lawson, Chris (Beth) Lawson, Catherine McArdle, David  (Crystal) McArdle and Sarah (Brandon)
Grigg; great grandchildren Jessica, Johnathan, Tara and Kyle McArdle, and Aiden, Alex, Britney, Rachel and
Katherine Lawson; a brother Bobby Toler; sisters Rachel (Clifford) Belcher, Dreama (Teddy) Lester and
Shirley (Kenneth) Toler; a special friend Brad Hayes and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral

Jessica Dawn Spears Nutter, 39, of Matheny, WV passed away on Saturday December 16, 2017 at her home.
She was born on August 6, 1978 in Beckley, WV a daughter of Barabara Bragg Crouse of Kopperston and
Stephen Spears of Matheny. In addition to her parents those left to cherish her memory are a daughter
Brandi Nutter of Matheny; a son Christopher Nutter of Kopperston; step-father Tommy Crouse of
Kopperston; step-mother Jane Spears of Matheny; two sisters Kimberly Bragg (Andy) Lafferty of Bassett,
VA and Sebrena Spears of Martinsville, VA; a brother Mickey (Heather) Crouse of Matheny; two nieces
Candace Lafferty of Bassett, VA and Destiny Spears of Martinsville, VA; three nephews Derek Lafferty of
Bassett, VA , Tyler Juarez of Bassett and Adrian (Brooke) Spears of Axton, VA; two great nephews Phoenix
Bowman of Collinsville, VA and Bentley Spears of Axton, VA; a great niece Zoey Lafferty of Bassett, VA; and

Micah Gerald Short, 55, of Oceana, WV passed away on Saturday December 16, 2017 at his home. He was
born on January 20, 1962 in Pikeville, KY, a son of Gerald and Faye Alfrey Short of Oceana. Micah is a
member of the I Heart Church and a graduate of Oceana High School. He is preceded in death by his
grandparents Bernie and Ethel Short and Narie and Virgil Alfrey. Micha worked many years for the
Wyoming County Board of Education as a teacher and coach. From 1994 to 2002 he was the Head Football
Coach for Oceana High School. In addition to his parents he is survived by his loving wife Michelle
Spaulding Short; two sons Cody and Chase Short; father and mother-in-law David and Sherry Spaulding of
Oceana; great grandmother-in-law Rosie Perry of Cyclone; sister-in-law Heather (Adam) Osborne of Bolt;
brother-in-law Ryan (Lindsey) Spaulding of Charleston; niece and nephew Riley Peyton Osborne and Jacob
Spaulding; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Wednesday

Genevie Deloris Laxton, 76, of Portsmouth, OH passed away on Monday December 18, 2017 at Southern
Ohio Medical Center, Portsmouth, OH. She was born on November 22, 1941 in Crany, WV a daughter of the
late Connard Mackie and Lula Bailey Johnson. Genevie attended Toneda Missionary Baptist Church and
Crany Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by four sisters; Narcissa
Hatfield, Mildred Acord, Virginia Stafford and Patricia Johnson; and two brothers; Darrell and James
Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews. Survivors include a daughter Edna June (Danny) Laxton
Claypool of West Portsmouth, OH; a son Allen (Beth) Laxton of Lynco; three grandchildren Joshua A. (Lisa)
Laxton of Davin, WV, Maryann (Michael) Cline of Radford, VA and Danica Faith Claypool of West
Portsmouth; three great great granddaughters; four brothers; Wayville Johnson of Bolt WV, Connard

Kathy Sue Kenneda Steeles, 62, of Lexington, NC passed away on Sunday December 24, 2017 at Hinkle
Hospice House, Lexington, NC. She was born on February 3, 1955 in Welch, WV a daughter of the late Edgar
and Dorothy Combs Kenneda. Kathy attended the Apostolic House of Prayer. In addition to her parents she
is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Steeles; a daughter Candice Steeles; two sons Jamie Toler and
Brian Toler; three sisters Karen Sue Kenneda, Freda Lusk, and Virgie Morgan; two brothers Earl Kenneda and
Okey Kennedy. Survivors include a daughter Teresa Toler; five sons Tony Steeles and companion Jennifer of
Hanover, Shawn Toler and wife Miranda of Hanover; Edward Toler and companion Francis Collins of
Lexington, NC, Scott Steeles of Lexington, NC and Aaron Ray Kenneda and companion Hailey of Simon; two
sisters Patricia Williams and husband Chuck of Lexington, NC and Virginia Brooks and husband Otis of
Simon; two brothers Ervin Kenneda and Eddie Kenneda both of Simon; a sister-in-law Carla Kenneda of

Colonel Edward Hash, 91, of Kopperston, WV passed away on Tuesday December 26, 2017 at his home. He
was born on April 21, 1926 in Maven, WV a son of the late Colonel Mack and Carrie Morgan Hash. Colonel is
a United States Marine Corps Veteran. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 45
years Joyce Walker Hash; a daughter Yvonne Crutchfield; a grandson Jeremy Kidd; and a special friend
Nancy Steffey. Survivors include two daughters Patricia (Brent Sutphin) Kidd of Oceana and Toni Lelaine

James Robert Cook, 54, of Oceana, WV passed away on Saturday December 23, 2017 at his home. He was
born on October 24, 1963 in Clear Fork, WV a son of the late Edward Doris and Hannah Merl Massey Cook.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Edward Leo Cook; and a sister Doris Lavain
Cook. Survivors include a daughter Krystal Annette Reagan and husband Aaron of Matewan; a son James
Robert Cook, II and fiancé Kyra Davis of Huntington; a sister Teresa Walker and husband Mike of Oceana; a

Emily Nicole Hatfield, 24, of Hanover, WV passed away on Friday December 22, 2017 at her home. She was
born on May 11, 1993 in Logan, WV a daughter of Stephanie Lester Hatfield of Welch and the late Jeffrey
Hatfield. Emily was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by a sister
Cassondra Hatfield; her grandparents Marie and Nathan Lester and Laura and Milton Hatfield; and her
great grandmother Barbara Leiski. In addition to her mother survivors include a daughter Kyleigh Kennedy;
four sons Bently, Jace, Kyle and Waylon Kennedy; three sisters Adrienne Lane of Welch, Rebekah Koleski of

Betty Louise Bradford Wallace, 73, of Pineville, WV passed away on Sunday December 31, 2017 at her home.
She was born on April 18, 1944 in Wise, VA a daughter of the late Ira Robert and Mollie Ethel Burns. In
addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Roger Wallace; brothers and sisters Carlos
Bradford, Virginia Morgan, Margie Shirley, Ira Bradford, Jr., Paul Bradford and Bill Bradford. Survivors

home. He was born on June 21, 1968 in Mullens, WV the son of Vergie Lee Brewster Baldwin and the late
Robert Franklin Baldwin, Jr. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by a sister Judy Wimmer; a

Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born on September 2, 1947 in Coon Branch, WV a daughter of the
late Homer and Hazel Davis Stinson. Donna is a member of the Oceana Church of God. In addition to her
parents she is preceded in death by her two sons Randall "Bubby" Church and Tony Church; and a sister
Sylvia Kissinger. Survivors include her loving husband of 29 years Dale Elliot Bailey; a daughter Debbie

Tony Lee Cline, 52, of Sunhill, WV passed away on Tuesday January 2, 2018. He was born on July  31, 1965
in Chicago, IL a son of Bobby and Yvonne Hughes Cline of Sunhill. Tony is a United States Marine Corp.
Veteran, a 1983 graduate of Baileysville High School and attended Marshall University. He is preceded in
death by his grandparents Irene and Fred Cline and Fred and Mary Hughes; a step son Matthew Brown; a
niece Sara Cline; an aunt Janet Johnson; and an uncle Tony Hughes. In addition to his parents survivors
include a daughter Amber (Travis) Brunty of Clear Fork; two sisters Faith (Kevin) Morgan and Hope
(Jeremy) Pettry all of Sunhill; two brothers Freddie "Joey" Cline and Eddie Cline both of Sunhill; a

James Michael "Buck" Elswick, 47, of North Spring, WV passed away on Friday January 5, 2018 at his
home. He was born on August 30, 1970 in Man, WV a son of the late James Franklin and Linda Morgan
Elswick. James was a member of the Verner Community Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in
death by his grandmother Ester Cline; cousins and best friends Denny Toler and Roy "Darry" Toler; and a
second father and best friend Russell Tiller. Survivors include four sisters Gail (Billy) Hall of North Spring,

Hunter Gene Paynter, 13, of North Spring, WV passed away on Sunday December 31, 2017 at his home. He
was born on January 17, 2004 in Logan, WV a son of Virgil Gene and Rachael Elizabeth Gibson Paynter of
North Spring. Hunter attended Huff Consolidated School where he played basketball. He loved hunting,
fishing, airsoft wars and dirt bikes. He is preceded in death by his great grandparents Robert and Shirley
Blankenship and Dexter and Nellie Paynter; two great aunts Geneva Blankenship and Freda Blankenship;
great uncle Bruce "Sam" Blankenship; and grandmother Gladys Browning. In addition to his parents
survivors include two brothers Jacob and Levi Paynter; grandparents Virgil and Sherry Paynter of Lynco,

Donald "Wilkie" Elkins, 77, of Cyclone, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday January 6, 2018 at
Bluefield Medical Center, Bluefield, WV following a long illness. He was born on September 21, 1940 in
Cyclone, WV a son of the late Dixie Nutter and Harding Toler. He was a member of the Toler Baptist Church
and was a resident of McDowell Nursing and Rehab for a short time. In addition to his parents he is
preceded in death by a brother Russell Nutter; and grandparents John and Anna Laura Elkins. Survivors
include three sisters Nancy Gibson of Cyclone, Wanda (Jerry) Cobb of Davin and Dorothy Brooks of
Kopperston; two brothers Homer "Ed" (Mary) Nutter and Frank Maynor Nutter all of Oceana; and a host of
nieces, nephews whom he loved and who loved him and other family and friends. Funeral services will be

Georgina "Gina" Ferrari Maynard, 83, of Lynco, WV passed away on Saturday January 6, 2018 at her home.
She was born on October 3, 1934 in Gnunden, Austria a daughter of the late Josef and Theresa Ohlinger
Ferrari. Georgina attended the Oceana Church of God. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death
by her husband James H. "Sarge" Maynard; a son Jimmy Maynard; a grandson Chad Maynard; a sister
Sonja Kropfreither; special niece Claudia; and two daughters-in-law  Tammy Maynard and Regina Maynard.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons Johnny Maynard of Fayetteville, Donald (Charlene)
Maynard of Oceana; a daughter Tina (Bill) Redden of Oceana; three grandsons John Maynard, Jr., James
Maynard III and Adam (Jennifer) Redden; five granddaughters Misty Willard, Danelle  (Chris) Perez,

Jimmy Darrell Toler, 70, of Clear Fork, WV passed away on Tuesday January 9, 2018 at Raleigh General
Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born on July 13, 1947 in Oceana, WV a son of the late Prather Lee and Billie
Dove Wright Toler. Jimmy is a disabled United States Army Vietnam Veteran. He was a proud disabled
coalminer and a UMWA member. He proudly volunteered with the DAV and the Veterans Honor Guard. He
felt it important to honor our veterans. He is a 1966 graduate of Oceana High School.  Jimmy loved to ride
his Harley and his Mustang. He said his back may be broke but he felt free on a ride. Jimmy lost his high
school sweetheart and wife of 28 years Betty Ann Keeney Toler August 2, 2013 and he is also preceded in
death by his parents. Jimmy was a kind hearted man who loved his family and friends. He especially loved
his children Allen Toler of Beckley, Mark Toler  of Fredericksburg, VA, Renae (Greg) Pennington of Clear
Fork and Jenny (James) Belcher of Clear Fork; a special place in his heart were the grandbabies Victoria, D.
J., Brian, Seth, Steven and Tara; his great grandbabies Ethan, Madison, Kendra, Ian, Bennett and Jaylen;
four brothers Roger Toler of Blountstown, FL, Russell Toler of Chapmanville, Jeff (Romaine) Toler of
Cyclone and Phillip (Mari) Toler of Manteo, NC and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral

Raymond Dean Frazier, 67, of Glen Fork, WV passed away on Thursday January 4, 2018 at Raleigh General
Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born on March 17, 1950 a son of the late Raymond Jenkins and Stella Ann
Irick Frazier. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers Donald, Gerald and Robert
Frazier; and a sister Linda Wright. Survivors include his loving wife Debra Randolph Frazier; a daughter
Twyla Lee Lewis; a brother Gary Frazier; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will

was born on April 5, 1969 a daughter of the Hebera Curry of Pineville and the late Donzal Loral Curry, Sr.
Judy attended the Pineville Church of God. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by her
husband Douglas "Junebug" Shelton, Jr.; and her twin sister Julie Ann Curry. In addition to her mother

four nieces Alexis Curry, Diedre Stouts, Tanya Stangler and Tara Wilson; a nephew Jacob Curry; two great

Doris Lea Adams Cline, 86, of Pineville, WV passed away on Friday January 12, 2018 at Wyoming
Continuous Care, New Richmond, WV. She was born on November 1, 1931 in Bartley, WV a daughter of the
late Hubert and Nellie Catherine Stewart Adams, Sr. Doris is a member of Cook Memorial Baptist Church. In
addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Arvil Glen Cline; a brother Hubert Adams,
Jr.; and a sister Freda Lester. Survivors include three sisters Ruby Lester of Brenton, Louise Lester of Biloxi,
MS and Katherine Jessie of Brenton; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

Janice Walker Pack, 84, of Matheny, WV passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday January 17,
2018. She was born on April 10, 1933 in Bear Branch, WV a daughter of the late Warner and Vergie Dameron
Walker. She was a lifelong resident of Matheny. She worked as a cook at Matheny Grade School and Oceana
High School for 17 years and was a member of the Matheny Methodist Church and a caregiver to countless
others. Janice's faith in our savior Jesus Christ was enduring and she spent her final years in daily prayer
with the Lord.  Isaiah 40:11; Like a shepherd he will tend his flock, in his arms he will gather the lambs and
carry them in his Bosom. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother Gene Walker; her
husband of 17 years Posey Stewart; her husband of 4 years Earl Oliver; her husband of 29 years John
Reuben Pack; and two infant children Posey Stewart, Jr. and Christa Elaine Stewart; and step daughter
Kathyrn Hall. Those left to cherish her memories are her son Jeffrey Stewart and wife Cindi of Charlotte,
NC; a step grandson Corey Gibson of Lake Forest, CA; two step daughters Virginia Shadrick of Petersburg,

Billy Ray Dunn, 78, of Clear Fork, WV passed away on Tuesday January 30, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House,
Beckley, WV. He was born on August 23, 1939 in Clear Fork, WV a son of the late David and Anna Barnette
Dunn. Billy liked fishing, hunting and helped on the farm growing up. He worked at the Gas Well Company
for a short time. Billy was a care giver to his parents, brother Wesley Dunn and Katherine Rose. Billy never
met a stranger. He loved to go to Tudor's, McDonald's and Hardees. He loved family gatherings and
listening to music. Billy is the youngest out of eleven children. In addition to his parents he is preceded in
death by five brothers Jerry , James Edward, Wesley, Birley and Willie; and three sisters Lena, Juanita and
Sylvia. Survivors include a sister Grace Cook of Clear Fork; a brother Tom (Judy) Dunn of Granite Falls, NC;

affectionately known as "The Bee Man". He is also preceded in death by a son Michael Walls; brothers

owner/operator of Browning Flooring. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers
Robert F. Browning, Billy Joe Browning and Jackie O'Dell Browning. Survivors include two sons Todd
(Angel) Runciman and Ryan Conley; a daughter Rachael Wright; a brother Rickie (Julie) Browning; four

Lacy and Gladys Bradbury Altizer. Erma attended the Advent Christian Church. In addition to her parents
she is preceded in death by her husband Walter "WC" Blankenship; a son Craig Steven Blankenship; a
brother Roger Altizer; and son-in-law Stephen Weaver. Survivors include two daughters Pamela Weaver of

Daphine Day Acord of Glen Fork and the late Hiram Acord. Jeanette was a member of the Bellemeade
Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by a brother-in-law Ronnie

David K. Mayberry, 90, exchanged his earthly home in Kopperston, WV to his Heavenly home on Thursday
February 1, 2018. He was the son of the late Christopher K. and Zola Matney Mayberry. David had
suffered a heart-attack followed by a stroke from which he could not recover. He was lovingly attended
by his wife Joy Reed Mayberry and his elder daughter Marina. Survivors also include a daughter Denise
(Scott) Spills of Titusville, FL; a granddaughter; three great grandchildren; and two great great
grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends. David was a multi faceted person who
worked in jobs from mining at Kopperston to the Space Industry in Florida, where he worked on the
Apollo and shuttle programs until his retirement. He then returned to West Virginia the state he dearly

Robert Samuel McGuire, 67, of Montcalm, WV passed away Friday February 16, 2018 at his home following a
courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 1, 1950 in Pineville, WV a son of the Mona Ruth
Francis McGuire of New Richmond and the late Robert Samuel McGuire. Robert is a United States Marine
Corp Veteran who served proudly in the Vietnam war with the 3rd Recon. He is preceded in death by his
father and first wife Carol Joyce McGuire. In addition to his mother survivors include his wife Virginia
McGuire; two sons Hunter McGuire of Montcalm and Bobby McGuire  of Columbia, MO; two daughters
Angela McGuire and Carolyn (Dale) Wilson all of Auxvasse, MO; a sister Gloria (Eppie) Cline of Oceana; a
brother Jack (Pat) McGuire of Glen Fork; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; special friend and
brother Steve Shircliff of FL whom is the last surviving member of the USMC 3rd Recon Team; and a host of
other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday February 18th in the
Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Ernest Francis, Jr. and Bro. Chris Brooks
officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Glen Fork Community Cemetery, Glen Fork, WV. Friends may gather
with the family from Noon until time of services on Sunday February 18th at the funeral home. The
Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. The family is being served by the

Wayne Oliver Stewart, 78, of Simon, WV passed away Friday February 16, 2018 at Raleigh General Hospital,
Beckley, WV. He was born on November 11, 1939 in Pineville, KY a son of the late Obed and Viola Deloris
Allen Stewart. Wayne is a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by  his
wife Linda May Toler Stewart; and a sister Betty Sue Graves. Survivors include a daughter Judith (Tony)
Lester of Buffalo; a son Wayne (Sonja) Stuart of Sunhill; four brothers Thomas Earl (Amy) Stewart of San
Antonio, TX, Charles Lee (Retha) Stewart of Lynco, Roland Jerome Stewart of Maryville, VA and David
Allen Stewart of Maryville, VA; five grandchildren Shanna Snyder, Kayla Stuart, Gabrielle Stuart, Emma
Lester and Allie Lester; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00
PM on Wednesday February 21, 2018 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev.
David Johnson officiating. He will be laid to rest in Toler Cemetery, Simon, WV. Friends may gather with

Josephine Proffitt Preece, 65, of Oceana, WV passed away Saturday February 17, 2018 at Beckley
Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born on February 22, 1952 in Simon, WV a daughter of Firg
Anderson Proffitt of Oceana and the late Louise Cline Proffitt. In addition to her mother she is preceded in
death by her step mother Rose Proffitt. In addition to her father survivors include her loving husband
Clifford Allen Preece; a son Timothy Allen Preece of Matoaca, VA; a daughter Tammy (Charles) Cook of
Clintonville, WV; four sisters Dianna (Powell) Morgan, Pauline (Alvin) Kennedy, Lawona Preece, and Patty
(Larry) Morgan; a brother Ricky (Brenda) Proffitt; five grandchildren John Cook, Laura Akers, Timothy
Preece, Jr., Elaina Preece and Sarah Preece; on great grandchild Logan Reed; and a host of other loving
family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Tuesday February 20th in the Chapel of Stafford
Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Bro. Frank Preece officiating. She will be laid to rest in Palm
