Obituaries
Richard Troy "Dickie" Davidson, 76, of Mullens, passed peacefully into Heaven Friday March 8, at the
Bowers Hospice House after a very short battle with cancer. Fondly known by many as Mr. D, Coach or
PawPaw D. He was loved and appreciated by numerous family members, students, and former co-workers
across Wyoming County and beyond for his good nature, desire to help, passion for photography, and most
of all for the love he shared with all he met. He was an active member of Highland Baptist Church for his
entire life where he served as deacon, trustee, former Sunday School Teacher, or any role that needed to
filled. Always passionate about serving the Lord and inviting other to church. Richard was preceded in
death by his parents James and Virginia Dunlap Davidson; his brother J.T. Davidson; his daughter Felicia
Davidson Marcum; and his uncle (who was more like a brother) Jack Dunlap; mother-in-law Edna Francis;
and brother-in-law Freddie Francis. Survived by the love of his life is his devoted and loving wife of 50
years Deborah  Jean Francis Davidson;  son Ryan and Daughter-in-law Rene; son Jeremy and
daughter-in-law Teresa; his precious grandchildren that made him smile, laugh and kept him active
--Logan, Skylar, Keegan, Rome, Milan, and Roger Marcum, Jr.; his father-in-law Roy Francis, and numerous
family members and friends. He cherished spending time with his family at home, on vacations, at the river
camp, ballgames, or any time they were together. Richard was very devoted family man that loved talking
about his grandchildren. One of  his last requests was "please keep this family together - do not fall apart."
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Wednesday March 13th at the Highland Avenue Baptist Church,
Mullens, WV with pastor Rev. Lewis Arnold and brother-in-law Ernie Francis. Burial in Roselawn Memorial
Gardens, Princeton. Pallbearers will be former students/ballplayers and friends. Visitation from 11AM until
time of services on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to
Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Mullens or Appalachian Bible College Mount Hope, West Virginia for a
scholarship fund for his grandson Logan Davidson.  The family is being served by the Stafford Family

Karen Ann Browning, 37, of Cyclone, WV passed away on Friday March 8,  2019 in University of Kentucky
Medical Center, Lexington, KY. She was born on December 30, 1981 in Logan, WV a daughter of Robert
Michael Hilling of Campus and Karen Smith Craddock of Kenna.   She is preceded in death by an infant son
Anthony Keith Cook; grandparents William and Carol "Gertrude" Maynor, Elwood and Lillian Hilling and
Nellie Jane Smith. Survivors include her husband of 2 years Kevin Browning; a daughter Kristen Cline of
New Richmond; two sons Nathan and Matthew Matz of New Richmond; step mother Caroline Hilling of
Cyclone; step father Joe Craddock of Kenna; Grandfather Bobby Smith of Ottawa; three sisters Icy Rose of
Cyclone, Jennifer Morris of Charleston and Holly Thomas of Lexington, KY; a brother Michael Hilling of
Oceana; and a host of other loving family and friends.  Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Saturday
March 16th at the Little Pilgrim Freewill Baptist Church, Cyclone, WV with Pastor David Hatfield
officiating. She will be laid to rest in Brown / Matz / Griner  Cemetery, Browntown, WV. Friends may

Kathy Marie Lucas, 64, of Sophia, WV passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2019 at Harper Mills, Beckley,
WV. She was born on March 20, 1954 in Slab Fork, WV a daughter of the late Alvin Elmer and Myrtle Louise
Lawson Lucas. Kathy is a member of the Hotchkiss Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is
preceded in death by a sister Darlene Olson and a brother Doug Lucas. Survivors include a daughter Keri
Lipford of Beckley; a son Michael (Robin) Lipford of Surveyor; a brother Roy Lucas of Sophia; companion
Bill Linkous of Sophia; three grandchildren MiKenley , Brooklyn and Chance Lipford; and a host of other
loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Monday March 18th at the Hotchkiss
Baptist Church, Hotchkiss, WV with Pastor Timothy Chapman officiating. She will be laid to rest in Slab

Gloria Dean Lusk, 64, of Oceana, WV passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2019 at Logan Regional
Medical Center, Logan, WV. She was born on May 22, 1954 in Welch, WV a daughter of the late Wannie
Prince and Peggy Euvaughn Duffy Osborne. Gloria is a member of the Lillyhaven Missionary Baptist
Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include her children Tammy (Michael) Toler
of Cyclone, Marty James (Nichole) Toler of Cyclone, Amy (Russell Martin) Toler of Oceana and Tonya
(Donald Morgan) Lusk of Cyclone; a sister Kathy (Teddy) Gunnoe of Oceana; two brothers Willie Gene
(Dolly) Osborne of Oceana and John Osborne of Asheboro, NC; fifteen grandchildren Monica (Lonnie Yost)
Toler, Heather (Mitchell) Cook, Codie (Amanda) Toler, Darrell Toler, Abbigale Toler, Caleb Adkins, Emily

Barbara Louise Jenks Steele, 47, of Panther, WV passed away on Tuesday March 12, 2019 at her home. She
was born on December 22, 1971 a daughter of the late Tommy Perry and Barbara Christian Jenks, Sr. In
addition to her parents she is preceded in death by an infant son Joseph Blankenship; a brother Andy Lee
Jenks; and two sisters Mary Marie Mullins Edwards and Patricia Ann Jenks. Survivors include her loving
husband of five years Orban "Duce" Steele; a daughter Barbara Blankenship Childress; a son Walter
Blankenship of Bull Creek; two step daughters LaCosta Tenile Steele of Lower Long Pole and Miracle Hope
Steele of Johnny Cake Mountain; a step son Corey Britan Steele of Charleston;  six grandchildren Lashe

Minnie Evelyn Francis, 82, of Glen Fork, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday March 14, 2019 at
Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born on October 13, 1936 in Rhodell, WV a daughter of the
late Garrett Noel and Inez Jettie Adkins Bolen. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her
husband of 63 years Ernest Francis, Jr.; infant son Samuel Francis; grandson Tyler Francis; son-in-law John
Sizemore; and daughter-in-law Tammy Francis. Survivors include her children Shelia Sizemore, Garrett
Francis, Darryl Francis, Thomas Francis and Ernest (Victoria) Francis, III; two brothers Norvel (Darlene)
Bolen of Jesse and Noel (Barbara) Bolen of OH; grandchildren Jason (Sara) Sizemore, Derek Sizemore,

Emma Jean Morgan Keene, 69, of Glen Daniel, passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2019 at Raleigh
General Hospital. She was the daughter of Lark Morgan Sr. and Tressie Kennedy Morgan. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters Geneva Blankenship and Donna Cosetino; and three
brothers Herman, Burley, and June Morgan. Survivors include her husband of 42 years James H. Keene.
She had three daughters Bethel Paynter (Steve Norby) of Longmont, CO; Sandra Smith (Mark Shrewsbury)
of San Antonio, Texas: and Ellen Soliman, of Glen Daniel, WV. She had two sons James A. Keene (Debbie
Perdue) of Roanoke, VA and Roger Keene of Bland, VA. She leaves behind several foster children that she
and her husband helped to raise. Her surviving brothers are Calvin Morgan of Chicago, IL; and Joseph
Morgan (Joan) of Talcott, WV. Also left to cherish her memory are nine grandchildren, Kevin Marcum of
Crany, WV; Corey Paynter of Longmont, CO; Travis Marcum of Charleston, WV; Ryan Thacker of Glen
Daniel, WV; Heather Peterson, Kymberly Holcomb, and Charlie Keene of Roanoke WV; and Madison and
Jonathan Keene of Bland, VA. She had five great-grandchildren and one on the way. Friends may gather
with the family at 11:00am and her funeral will be at noon on Monday March 18, 2019, at the Stafford

Alford Harvey, 67, of Clear Fork, WV went home to be with the Lord on Friday March 15, 2019  at his home.
He was born on March 22, 1951 in Sunhill, WV a son of the late German Victor and Inez Belcher Harvey.
Alford attended the Sunhill Freewill Baptist Church and is a member of the UMWA. In addition to his
parents he is preceded in death by a nephew Bryant Wesley Cochran; father and mother-in-law William
"Bill" and Letha "Celia" Toler. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years Mary Pearl Toler Harvey; a
daughter Misty Lynn (John) Maynor of Clear Fork; a son Adam (Monica) Harvey of Clear Fork; two sisters
Edra Gay (Darrell) Cochran and Donna Faye (Gerald) Jackson all of Sunhill; two brothers Billy Lee
(Beatrice) Harvey and Steven Victor (Sherry) Harvey all of Sunhill; five grandchildren Latasha Maynor,
Katie Toler, Isabella Maynor, Wynter Harvey and Summer Harvey; and a host of other loving family and

Melanie Gaye “Goodee” Boothe, 33 of Cyclone, WV passed away Wednesday March 20th 2019 at CAMC
General Division from injuries sustained in a car accident, Melanie was a 2003 graduate of Westside High
School, she played softball known as the “beast” hind catcher, she also played basketball. She was the
daughter of Willie & Rhonda Boothe. She has three beautiful children Natalie, Kara, and Kaiden that she
loved dearly. A sister Savannah and her husband CJ, two nephews Garrett and Bryson, two nieces Addison,
and Cheyenne and a special little girl Sophie who she thought the world of others left to cherish her
memories are Kee-Kee & Jenn-Jenn, Michael & Lisa, Gene & Patricia, Regina “Sissy” & Richard, Dewanna
Bailey, Lonnie “Hobb” & Margie, Scotty & Delinda, Gary, Donna and her grandmother Vaunda. Cousins,

Charles Dale Robinson, 81, of Brenton, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday March 21, 2019 in
Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born on November 19, 1937 in Cincinnati, OH a son of the
late Charles D. and Mary Elizabeth Belle Robinson. Charles attended the Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church
and was the owner of Pizza Mingo. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife
Margaret Brown Robinson; a daughter Lou Ann Robinson; a son Mark Robinson; and brother James
Robinson; .   Survivors include his loving wife of almost 5 years Serena G. Blankenship Robinson; four

Agnes Marie Lawson Gunter, 69, of Pineville, WV passed away on Friday March 22, 2019 at her home. She
was born on September 16, 1949 in Tazewell, VA the daughter of the late William Harvey and Elizabeth
Baldwin Lawson. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Gunter, Jr.;
daughter Rachel Brown; granddaughter Zoey Graham; great granddaughter Nevaeh Mircale McMillion;
and grandson J.R. Brown, Jr. Survivors include four daughters Anita Graham (Duke McClanahan) of
Pineville, Wendy Cook of Oceana, Tonya Acord (Delmas Toler) of Oceana and Jennifer (Carlos) Pitno of
Kopperston; three sons Robert Edward Graham and Robert Dale (Natasha Belcher) Graham, Jr. both of
Pineville and Joshua Graham of Welch; a sister Darlene Redding of FL; five brothers Johnny Lawson,

Larry Eugene Perdieu, 71, of New Richmond, WV passed away on Monday March 25, 2019 at Wyoming
Nursing and Rehab, New Richmond, WV. He was born on November 22, 1947 in Iaeger, WV a son of the late
Norman and Bernice Deskins Perdieu. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Etta Mae
Perdieu; and a grandson Julice Perdieu. Survivors include two daughters Angie (Hollie) Bailey of Sabine and
Cathy (Robert) Redden of Conover, NC; a son Eugene Perdieu of Conover, NC; a sister Anita Lambert of
Chicago; two brothers Roger Perdieu of Kansas and Jerry Perdieu of Mullensville; a grandson Devin

Leanna Marie Cameron, 39, of Oceana, WV passed into a new life on Tuesday March 26, 2019 at Pikeville
Medical Center, Pikeville, KY. She was the daughter of the late Truman Lee and Marietta Faye Fritz
Cameron. Leanna had a spark for life like no other, she never met a stranger and deeply loved everyone she
knew. She craved for and is now in the loving arms of her parents. In addition to her parents she is
preceded in death by her infant son Colten Reese. Those left to morn her passing are her partner of 20
years Matthew Combs; two sons Tyler Lee Cameron and Braxton Combs; and a host of uncles, aunts,

Cheryl Lynne Walker, 63, of Oceana, WV passed away on Wednesday March 27, 2019 at Logan Regional
Medical Center, Logan, WV. She was born on May 14, 1955 in Welch, WV a daughter of  Helen Ovella
Blankenship Walker and the late Gene Walker. Cheryl is a member of the Scott Depot Christ Fellowship
Church. A  graduate of  Oceana High School, Marshall University and WV College of Graduate Studies. She
worked as a certified registered nurse anesthetist for several years at CAMC and Raleigh General. In
addition to her mother survivors include a son Nicholas Walker of Oceana; a brother Geary Walker of
Bedford, VA; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Saturday
March 30th in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Pastor Stephen Walls

Teddy Lee Gunnoe, 65, of Oceana, WV passed away on Friday March 29, 2019 at Raleigh General Hospital,
Beckley, WV. He was born on November 14, 1953 in Charleston, WV a son of the late Posey Berman and
Waveline Gunnoe Lusk. Teddy is a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death
by two sisters Karen Cook and Elmira Francis Stewart; three brothers Ellery, Teddy and Berman Lusk.
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years Kathy Ann Osborne Gunnoe; a daughter Amanda (Darren)
Blankenship of Cyclone; two sons Curtis (Jennifer) Gunnoe of Clear Fork and Cameron Gunnoe of Beckley; a

Rebecca Joyce Mullins, 55, of Mullens, WV passed away on Friday March 29, 2019 at Bowers Hospice
House, Beckley, WV. She was born on March 4, 1964 in Shreveport, LA a daughter of Gilmer Walter Garrett
of Shreveport, LA and the late Linda Lou Parker Garrett. Survivors include her son Ethan Garrett Mullins
and wife Santana of Pineville; a sister Kristi (Eric) Medlin of Fort Worth, TX; a brother Marvin Ray Garrett
of Shreveport, LA; two grandchildren Violet Sky Mullins and Jordan River Mullins; and a host of other

Doris Mae Allen, 65, of Glen Rogers, WV passed away on Saturday March 30, 2019. She was born on
November 15, 1953 in McGraws, WV a daughter of Mandy Jane Tilley Allen of Ravencliff and the late Claude
Preston Allen. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by a two sisters Betty Bowman and Nancy
Allen; and a brother Jackie Dean Allen. In addition to her mother survivors include three sons Eric D. Taylor

Evelyn Carper Blankenship, 77, of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on Sunday April 7, 2019. She
was born on July 25, 1941 in Wyoming County, WV a daughter of the late Callie and Margie Graham Carper.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother Richard Carper. Survivors include three

Tony Delane "T-Bone" Toler, 52, of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 8, 2019.
He was born on March 3, 1967 in Mullens, WV a son of Roger Toler of Oceana and the late Linda Cline Toler.
T-Bone is a 1985 graduate of Oceana High School. He is a disabled coal truck operator and owned KAT
Enterprises and Iron Horse Transport.  In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by his

Bud Toler and Woodrow and Anna Mae Cline. In addition to his father survivors include his loving wife of

Betty Lou Kenneda, 69, of Simon WV, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday April 8th,
2019. Born September 1st, 1949 she is the daughter of the late Franklin and Bertha Cline Toler. Betty leaves
behind a great multitude of family and friends, whom she loved deeply. To know Betty was to love her. She
was a wonderful and caring woman who will be missed by all who knew her. Those waiting to greet her on

Ona Lyn Cline, 70, of Hanover, WV passed away on Friday April 19, 2019 in the Veterans Hospital in
Washington D.C. He was born on October 18, 1948 in Hanover, WV where he resided his entire life. The son
of the late Vernon and Irene Riffe Cline. Ona was a professional truck driver by trade. He was known by
many for his good cheer and great personality toward others. He is a United States Navy Vietnam Veteran
and a 1967 graduate of Baileysville High School.  In addition  to his parents he is preceded in death by a
brother Carl Cline. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years Shirley Blankenship Cline; a son Darrell Lee
(Angie) Cline of Cool Ridge; two grandsons Jarrod (Jackie) Cline of Cool Ridge and Jeffrey (Kelsey) Cline of
Coal City; two great grandchildren, who were the love of his life, Raelyn and Parker Cline of Cool Ridge;

Eunice Dorthina Woolwine Samples, 73, of Oceana, WV received her heavenly reward on Thursday April 25,
2019 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 11, 1946 to the late
Charles and Hazel Isabella (Linkous) Woolwine. Dorthina is a lifelong resident of Oceana and a 1964
graduate of Oceana High School. She is a member of the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church. She had been
employed for many years as a cook by Wyoming County Board of Education. In addition to her parents she
is preceded in death by a grandson Mathew Ryan Green; two sisters Lois Graham and  Ruby Woolwine; and
a brother Joe Woolwine. Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years Ronald Samples; her children
Kelli Samples of NC, Todd Samples of Pikeville, KY and Rebecca (Brian Ritchie) Green of NC; her

to fish, hunt and spending time with his kids and grandkids and great grandbabies. Those left to cherish his

Browning of Cyclone, Cassie Toler of TN and Brianna Hatfield of SC; five grandsons Avery (Jennifer) Toler
of Matheny, Adam (Tiffany) Toler of Kopperston, Dalton Toler of TN, Anthony Hatfield of SC and Randy
Shawn Lee Morgan; nine great grandchildren Emily, Brock, Zack, AJ, Thomas, Dylan, Elena, Jaxon and
Zaine; two brothers Johnny (Norm) Toler of Simon and Teddy (Marie) Toler of Clear Fork; a sister Melissa
(Glenn) Boggess of Hometown; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held
at 11AM on Saturday May 11th at the Sunhill Independent Country Church, Cedar Creek, WV with Pastor Jay
Blankenship and Rev. Richard Massey officiating. He will be laid to rest in Toler Cemetery, Sunhill, WV.

Betsy Ann Marshall Mullens, , 78, of Matheny, WV passed away on Friday May 10, 2019 at Bowers Hospice
House, Beckley, WV. She was born on May 22, 1940 in Mill Creek, WV a daughter of the late Jack and Leslie
Marshall.  Betsy is a 1959 graduate of Oceana High School. In addition to her parents she is preceded in
death by five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years John Verdon
Mullens; two sisters Melda Stewart and Donna Fisher; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Monday May 13th in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home,
Lynco, WV with Rev. Jerry Graham officiating. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley,
WV. Friends may gather with the family from 12PM until time of the funeral on Monday at the funeral

Lany Ray Shepherd, 49, of Oceana, WV was called up by his Lord and Savior on  Tuesday May 14, 2019  at
Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV following a short illness. He was born on September 13, 1969 in
Mullens, WV a son of the late Virgil Ray and Norma Blondine Blankenship Shepherd. Lany is a 1987
graduate of Baileysville High School. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by aunt Inez
Lawrence; and two uncles Earl and Freelen Shepherd. Survivors include his wife Michelle Lynn Addington
Shepherd; a son Dalton Shepherd; step daughter Brooke Lynn McCourt; two sisters Nellie Tuttle and Lisa
Rowe of;  uncle Roy Shepherd; niece and nephews Chris Morgan, Justin Rowe, Neah Morgan, Zachary
Rowe and Dalton Shepherd; and a host of other loving family and friends. In keeping with his wishes he
will be cremated and a memorial services will be held at a later date. The family is being served by the

Roger Lee "Rabbit" Bolen, 55, of Iaeger, WV passed away on Tuesday May 14, 2019 at Welch Community
Hospital, Welch, WV. He was born on October 5, 1963 in Welch, WV a son of the late Harold Gene and
Lorrene Daugherty Bolen. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers Vernon,
Larry and Glen Bolen; father-in-law Gene Pennington; brother-in-law Willie Pennington; and sister-in-law
Phyllis Pennington. Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years Lois Ann Pennington Bolen; a daughter
Kimberly Dawn Bolen and companion Dusty of Iaeger; a son Roger Lee Bolen, Jr. and companion Lenea of
War; a sister Venita Johnson and husband Jerry "Red" of Corrine; a brother Eddie Bolen and wife Shirley of
Wyco; five sister-in-laws Judy Bolen of South Charleston, Trecia Reynolds and husband Johnny  of
